The Sanskrit Translation of Tantra literally means
"liberation through expansion",
or in other words a trancendant path to enlightenment by expansion.
Expansion of the mind to encompass awareness of all dimensions of time and space by being at one with the universe; at the center. This place is also the void where nothing exists and yet everything is. To maintain this, one should meditate at least twice a day. Meditation is in simple terms the 'stilling' of the mind, allowing all thought to dissipate into nothingness, and attain a sublime state of being, yet remaining fully conscious and alert: whereupon emerging from this 'void' a state of euphoric contentment, peace and awareness lingers for hours. The word Tantra also expresses a union of the Two fundamental energies : Male and Female .

So Tantra can describe a way to approach all aspects of life, survival, work, parenting, education, ceremony, religeous retreat, medicine, sex, and even death etc.

It is with this Buddhist knowledge that I approach my own creativity.
I call my work tantra sculpture because I feel that my Sculpture has began to express liberation,
together with an understanding of the masculine and feminine forces present in all forms of life.
In many ways I am inspired by this gender polarisation but intent on the potential of the Divine Union that is the goal of Tantric teachings, be it in the physical, mental or spiritual realms. The inspiration for my work whether it be of the animal kingdom, daily human interaction, dance or sensual erotic depictions of the positions of the Kama Sutra is based on movement, body language and inner feelings. All of these contribute to the additional expression of a spiritual essence which I am endeavouring to reflect in my work: an ongoing progression of my own life's journey, which may explain the occasional controversial thought or unhoned piece of sculpture.

The best sculpture that I produce is not " mine " but channelled through me from what I call Great Spirits Divine. This is a combination of a universal male or God energy and a universal female or Goddess energy. These two forces I am aware of , respect and concider at all times in my daily life.

The use of the word Tantra has unfortunately become synonymous with sex,
which is a falsehood and requires clarification. Tantric sex is the words used to describe a sexual practise based on the premise of Tantra and is just one aspect of a lifestyle towards enlightenment.

2. What is Tantric Sex?

Tantric Sex is the raising of sexual energy from the base or beastial level ( lustful or procreational level ) up to higher levels, and thus to deeper intimate and more meaningful levels of love, empathy, sharing, devotion and surrender; without the human negative traits of jealousy, possession, control and obligation.

Most people do begin to engage in that deeper intimacy but also become entangled in all the negative emotions or constraints that govern our hectic daily western lifestyle. We become distracted by desires of how things should or could be rather than just allowing the sexual dance to just evolve without agendas or attachments.

3. Why engage in Tantric Sex?

Well the approach to sex the Tantric way has quite a few benefits both immediate and long term.
The immediate benefits are more relaxed love-making, longer lingering blissful states, closer empathy and closer caring thoughtful communication.

The long term engagement in tantric sex for men increases their stamina, staying power, pleasuring ability, reduces premature ejaculation, and can even allow orgasm without ejaculation allowing them to continue without loss of energy or interest.
For women the whole experience becomes more pleasurable because the man is more engaged and can bring her to orgasm many times in a long dance instead of a sprint. The more adept man can give the woman visions, which the more adept woman can then give to the man, this is however quite high up on the tantric path and not instantly attainable.

4. What is armouring?

This is the term given to cover all forms of defence mechanisms that we create to avoid close intimacy due to past traumas, hurts, embarrassments, derision or sexual assault etc. We can consciously or sub-consciously build walls, towers or even bury ourselves in some dark place to avoid having to face them only to find that this becomes habitual and usually leads to magnification of the original negative feelings making intimacy even more difficult.

5. Is there more to different sex positions
than " variety "?

Yes, the different positions can and do make different Chakra centers more accessible for clearance while others can be slowed down allowing healing in the desired center to be carried out. This is sexual healing designed to remove the armouring described earlier which prevents the normal flow of energy through the body in and out that maintains a balanced satisfied blissful state of mind body and spirit.

Once both parties are healed in all their different energy centers, then they can use other positions or variations of these to achieve a union in ascending centers, gaining the different orgasms available for women and different levels of bliss for men. Raising their intimacy, empathy and fulfillment. Some of the higher positions require no physical movement at all and yet internally, there is a massive flow of energy going on, that is perceived and experienced, and yet it is almost indescribable.
